BTA friendly powerheads

I've seen a few questions about which powerheads are safe for anemone's and small fish, and others that are a disaster waiting to happen. I too have had the same question. Does anyone care to list powerheads that would be well served in a anemone tank, or a tank with small fish and inverts? I have also wanted to know who has been successful using powerheads such as koralia with slight modifications to protect things from the propeller, and how they did it. Anyone care to weigh in?

I too am interested after a disastrous encounter between my carpet and a MJ 900. Stupid on my part...the 'It will never happen to me' thoughts running through my head at the time.

Anyone know of any diy threads for MJ's off hand? I'm trying to come up with something that doesn't look too much worse than having powerheads in the water already.

There was a post on here not too long ago...(can't remember where...guess doesn't help you that much) on a mod that someone did to their koralia 1 with concerns about a stubborn fish swimming against the current and into its demise. He basically cut a thin piece of square plastic mesh, snipped it on the 4 sides of the square as to make it fit flush into the cone of the koralia head casing, and put it to action. It seemed like a smart idea, but honestly, it doesn't really seem necessary to me. I'll repost if I ever find the link.

Would love info on this myself. My new pair of Australian True Black Perc's are swimming around my Seio 820 a little and don't want a suction "catch" while they are so small.

There are little sheets of plastic mesh material that you can get from the sewing section in WalMart for a buck. you can easily cut it into little square sheets, tie together with fishing line or zip ties, and it will keep aBTA tentacle out. It needs to be rinsed every so often to keep up the water flow.

Those sheets are 8.5" x 11" size like a sheet of paper. They are white plastic mesh, walmart sewing section, I think grannies use it to do the macrame or pulling loops of yarn to make a little rug design? Anyhow, it cuts with some heavy duty scissors or a blade, and works great. I use pieces of it for keeping micro bubbles from exiting my skimmer. I made a large box out of several sheets when I was raising fresh-water fry and clipped it on the inside rim of my tank. So I am sure you could make it custom fit for any powerhead. I am working out a design for a new sump I am building for the water inflow chamber and the skimmer pump.

I am about to by a koralia 3 to try on one end of my 55. I have my return and another powerhead on the other end. Does that sound like a good choice? Once I see how well the koralia works, I may replace the other one. It's got the piece that spins the current in cycles which I kind of like for the time being. The rio 800 was not strong enough in my opinion. The koralia's push more current than that right?
