To preface here's my tank setup:
I've got a little play tank in my bedroom:
20 long with 20 tall sump
rio 1700 return, after the rc head loss calc it pushes 370 GPH.
sg: 1.0255
ph 8.3
kh 8.4
ca 460
mag 1300
nitrates <5 ppm
temp 78
filtration: cpr bak-pak2 w/ an upgraded pump + ~8g fuge w/ chaeto & caulpera
The tank started out as my first sw tank, a 10g sumpless system w/ an occelaris clown. LR, sand was moved to the 20g tank ~6 months ago. ~4 months ago i upgraded lighting from a 2x 9w pc coralife piece to a 4x 39w t5 lighting system. Coral growth, etc exploded. around the same time my original occelaris clown passes...bought it "used" im guessing it just died of age. Replaced it with a tank raised black clown. About one month ago, or one month after introducing the clown, i added a green BTA. The BTA immediatly settled down and has been as healthy as can be as far as i know. Heres a pic: (this was taken a little after introducing and further into my explanation of my situation, but it looked the same up until my issue...) http://i.imgur.com/nqgKw.jpg
About a month after the BTA was another tank raised occelaris, this time a ~2 month old orange clown (shown in the picture). Within a day of adding this clown he went into the nem and was in love hosting it. The nem seemed to handle it like it was no problem (the nem was about 4" across, the clown pictured is about the width of my pinky, maybe half an inch).
But after that everything went to hell. My new baby clown taught my black clown about nems. My black clown found the BTA that she had never messed with and fell in love. She has since been completely bombarding it. This has stressed out my nem to no end. 3 days ago my nem had had too much and started walking; later that night it let go and got sucked into the overflow box and was just spinning like a top. I put it back on its rock, but an hour later i found it in my sump (sucked through .75" tubing). I put it back on a rock but found it just floating through my display around in circles.
My question is now what do i do with the nem? It has not yet released all of its zoaxenthallae, its foot has no lacerations im aware of, but it will not stay on a rock in my tank. Ive currently got it set in a tupperware container in the tank, which i covered in eggcrate with the hope my black clown wouldnt bother it, but it has managed to squeeze through the eggcrate. Its current trapped in this tupperware where it isnt getting nearly as much flow as before, but in one day hasn't yet walked.
Where do i go from here?
I suppose i can leave it be in the tupperwere while the black clown still hosts it but it doesnt get as agitated from high waterflow
I can replace the eggcrate with a finer mesh keeping the clown out, but reducing the light & waterflow it recieves.
I can let it free in the tank (seems like an awful idea)
or;
i have a 75g tank with a firefish, a saddleback clown, and a melunaris wrasse, and a bunch of sps corals... am i best transfering it there?
The saddleback is a wild caught clown...i know in the wild it wont host in a BTA, im really hoping for the sake of the nem it just gets left alone for a little, am i best transfering it to my 75g or is it better staying same tank its in? The 75g has similar params to the 20g , just runs under 2x MH lights + VHO actinics. It has far higher flow though, and with a nem that wont settle down im worried about it getting chopped up in a powerhead.
