BTA suddenly closed up?

3 day old BTA in a stable system with good params.

Day 1 - After acclimation I placed the anemone on rock near bottom of tank. At feeding time I gave it some brine shrimp, which it seemed to eat.

Day 2 - BTA moved around a bit and is now on a higher rock. It's been open since the day it was introduced into the system.

Day 3 - This morning I woke up and the BTA was in the same place as yesterday and was open. Short bulbs, which I understand to be better than long ones.

5 minutes ago I checked the tank and the BTA is closed up and there 's a bit of redish/brown stuff (almost looks like ectoplasm) coming out of the middle of the creature.

What is going on? It it sick or just pooping?

had the same problem with my new BTAs, dont worry, its most probably pooping. Mine was fine after a couple of hours :) it closes up and poops periodically though.

Yep just pooping, mine has done that for a couple of years, if its stays closed for an extended period of time them you might start worrying

The BTA perched itself on the side of a rock in the lower 1/3 of my tank all weekend and the first part of this week. It seemed to be doing well and it accepted food a couple of days ago when I fed it.

This morning I woke up to find that in the middle of the night it moved under a large overhang/cave on the same rock and is now in what looks to be full shadow. Should I be worried? It looks like it's stretching some of it's tentacles out to get light but it's not getting anywhere near what it was. I'm using Radions for lighting so before it moved it was probably getting about 300 PAR on average, although the lights are in acclimation mode right now so it may be a little less while they slowly build to full intensity.

Mine is the same it moved to the sandbed where it could get its foot under a rock. It stretches out and up when lights are on. If it feels its not getting enough light it will move again.

My generally shrivels up if its going to poo it can be really stressful for them. Dont feed it two much once or twice a week is enough. Watch out for the browny snott like stuff it could be expelling its zooxanthellae.

It may be expelling because its stressed, the lights you have are more intense that what it was at the LFS so its adjusting or your lights are not as strong as the LFS so its getting rid of some additional. Your water is not stable and its getting stressed could be a number of reasons.
