BTAs and thier natural enviroment

Can anyone tell me about where BTA's are collected? Are they found in shallow waters? On the reefs among corals? If on the reef are they up high or down low? Do they tend to be found in groups? Does anyone have any good pics of anemones in thier natural environment.

I'm asking because my tank is anemone/clownfish only and I'd like to get a natural feel to it. I'm also curious about it because I am wondering if in fact BTAs do best under MHs or not.

This is a good article to start with. I think your answer is probably "It depends on where it lived when it was collected." Not that we have any way of finding that out for wild-collected 'nems. Captive clones you can at least have a chance of knowing how it lived before cloning.

Not much I know but it's a start on your research. Google scholar is a great tool as well, if you want journal articles, etc.

if you have HD discovery there is this awsome show called equator, it shows many things we have in our tanks including btas. from what i remember it was like a whole little sea of btas, all splirs that stay close. but there were some in sps fields too.. scattered...

I took lots of pictures when diving in Fiji. http://picasaweb.google.com/Flightymail
Look in the folders tagged with the word anemones like Anemones-3 (Sept 29)

Cindy,

Those are just incredible pictures! Thank you so much for sharing them. What a great incentive for people to captive-propagate anemones so that scenes like in your pictures will be around for our kids and grandkids and etc., to also be in awe of. If I could hug my 'nems I would go do that right now, I guess just feeding them will have to do though. :)

And thanks for reminding me that I need to get the schedule for SCUBA certification classes this Spring. :D

Oh my.....those pictures are great and great article too. It touched on all the things I was wondering about.
Thank you all.
Oh I just checked and I do get equator. We haven't had HDTV too long and I really haven't got around to checking out all the chanels. I will have to keep a close eye on that one.
