i have 120 lbs of live rock curing in a 40 gal. trash can it has been in there for about 5 weeks now. i just received a 40 lb package of live Fiji rock it is covered in bubble algae (Ventricaria) i took a brush to most of it and got off as much of it as i can and tossed it in the trashcan to cure with the rest of my rock do you think it will be a big problem? will it die off in due time? i didnt plan on taking it out of the trash can for about 4 or 5 more weeks i also put 5 Emerald Crabs in with the rock the cycle was over on the 120 lbs of rock so i figured it would be ok on them

I have to agree with peasofme, I have bubble algae in my set up. I've removed rock, scrubbed and put back but it returns. It's not bad so most times I see it I can usually take the entire sphere or group of them and remove. It's definitely not the worst and most unsightly algae to have but it is a nuisance.

It is hard to tell. When you start to scape your DT pluck it off the rock. Hopefully once your DT is setup it will not have favorable conditions for it.

It's a piffle of a problem in most tanks. It comes. It goes. Spores or no spores, it responds to conditions and when conditions favor it, it comes, and when conditions don't, it goes. I have had them golfball size--I let that one stay just out of amazement. And then they all went away, with my doing nothing.
