Bubble King for 345 gallon net? SuperMarin?

Would you recommend the BK skimmer you would suggest for a new 280 gallon tank with 102 gallon sump? Normal sump level will run at about 65 gallons.

This will be an SPS system. Will the BK SuperMarin 250 be appropriate? Would it be possible to get one within the next 3 weeks?

Jeremy for my new 280G, I would like to get an internal skimmer. Need some help with the following:

1. What is the differnece between delux models and supermarines ?

2. Once we have figured out the above difference...Should I go for 200 or the 250 model ??

My tank will be an SPS domianbetd tank with a lot of fises as well.

Hi Jeff,

The Deluxe skimmers are standard cylinders, internal bubble plates, with cone necks on the 250 and up. They utilize a telescoping wedge pipe to adjust water level that not only twists left and right, but also adjusts up and down to fine tune everything.

The Super Marin's use a cylinder body and a bubble plate, but utilize a very unique cone coming up off of the bubble plate itself, directing the bubble column right into the cone neck. They utilize a wedge pipe as well, but not a telescoping one.

Personally, I would choose the Super Marin 250 for your size setup.

Thanks for your quick response Jeremy. I have few more questions though....how is the super marine compared to the Alpha cones. Would you recommend going for Alpha 300 or Supermarine 250. Also do you guys carry the 220v version of these skimmers ??

Please advise at your earliest so that we can finalize the order !!

We do not carry them in 220v, I apologize, only 110v-120v at this time.

The Alpha 250 would fall inbetween the Super Marin 200 and Super Marin 250 performance wise. The Alpha 300 would fall inbetween the Super Marin 250 and Super Marin 300 performance wise.

You do save quite a bit of money with Alpha cones, it all just depends on what you're wanting.

I can pick up a 110v version, should not be an issue as we have both the supplies here.

What I am really loooking for is the best performance on my 280 G which is going to be quite heavily stocked. The sump will add another 100 G. What will be your recommendation to go with !?!

The SM250 is going to give you the most performance, without going too big and decreasing efficiency. The SM300 and Alpha 300 would be too big for your system. I would go with the Alpha 250 or SM250, just depending on your budget. You would be very happy with either in my opinion.

Not to butt in, But Jeramy forgot to mention the deluxe models have exhaust controll meaning you can place the out flow anywhere in the sump you want. It is not as finiky with water height in the sump as well. A constant water level is still best for any skimmer but the water height plays a bigger role with the sm's and vertex than the deluxe's. The pump is smaller than the SM models, But bigger than the vertex cone models. I find you get better skimmate controll on the deluxe's than the SM's. Not to say the SM's are lacking, But a preset submerged exhaust with only a wedgepipe on the SM's is less controllable than the deluxe's which can be submerged or above water and pointed/ran in any direction in addition to the telescoping wedge pipe.

Put it this way, The deluxe is a finesse skimmer and the Sm is a brute force skimmer. Both do the job effectively.
