Bubble magus curve 5, help please!!!

Hello all, I'm new to this forum and am after a little help and advice if you fellow reefer could help.

I have a red sea reefer 170 with the red sea sump it comes with, I m running the bubble magus curve 5 (well trying) but can not get it to skim.

I know the skimmer is ment to be in 9inch if water, how ever I have heard of people running it in a lot less. My water level sits at 8inch bang on. I have tried nearly everything I've found online to fix the problem.

I'm hoping someone in the forum can lend a hand as I'm close to replacing the skimmer.

How long has the skimmer been running? It takes a few days to break in. Also is this an established tank? If it's a new tank there may not be anything for the skimmer to skim.

Give it some time. I don't recall exactly long my Curve 5 took to start skimming, but it was not right away. Now it fills my skimmer cup once or twice week.

The started water level is totally WRONG IMO.. (I swear they measured that with fresh water only or something)

I run mine at I think 5-6" or so..
For the first week after you get the water level right run it full open (knob set to greater than 3.. (I forget if there is a 4 or not).. Then you can close it after break in.. I think mine is running at 2 and skimming like a champion..

Its a great skimmer but the recommended water level is wrong.. and it should be in far shallower water..
