Bubble Magus Skimmer not...skimming?

Howdy all,

Just got my 125G setup with it's 30 gallon sump...I've got a bubble magus curve 5 running, but even at it's wettest setting, nothing is making it up to the collection cup. It's making a ton of a bubbles, but I would expect it to be filling up with my dirty tank.

Thanks

Is your tank cycled? There is a break in period for skimmers. MMy RO 110 took 2 days before skimming semi good. What's your salinity

Be worried in a week. I've had skimmers with labels saying they may need up to 2 weeks to break in and start skimming. Also, if you don't have fish, you won't have hardly anything to skim, if anything at all.

Just looked up that skimmer. It's under rated for your tank size. I'm not saying you need something double or triple your tank but I would have stepped up to the curve 7 if I was running that skimmer. If you put a mild load into that tank I don't belive your skimmer can keep up. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I'm using the curve 7 on my 72g. I know I could have used the 5, but I had the space so went a little bigger. But for a 125g I would have gone bigger than the 7, certainly not the 5. That being said, it did take a few days for mine to break in. Tons of microbubbles for the first day, none ever since.

Good to know, that's happening here also. The skimmer came with the tank, which is why I have it. It's rated up to 140 gallons, so it should be okay for now. I do plan on upgrading, but that's gonna have to wait.
