Bubbles and gobys

I just purchased a sand sifting goby today. I noticed that after he works the sand for a few minutes a couple of bubbles appear floating to a he top.
Any ideas? Is it flatulence lol?
I have a very shallow sand bed.
Fine sand.
125 gal tank
I recently has a bout with red slime.
Ummm, can't think of what else is relevant.

Sometimes pockets of gases build up in the sand bed especially if you don't sift it often. You can see them against the glass sometimes. It was a real problem in deep sand beds back in the day. Usually sifting your sand with a chopstick is recommended but since you have the goby he will do the job for you.
