Bubbles are gone, but what is this?

Ok, I put another bubble trap in my sump and the bubbles are completely gone. But my skimmer is releasing these white particles.. they are not bubbles.

What is this? They are very tiny. How can I get rid of them?

Someone is bound to ask for pictures. Any way you can take some of these?? Can you capture some of the white particles??

Hold on, sorry the camera has to charge a bit. Here is a previous picture, this was with the addition of bubbles though.

Yeah thats locline, but it only comes out when the skimmer is on. It is clearer to see in the display tank. I can get a video in a couple mins of it passing threw the bubble trap, and going into the tank.

Is this skimmer setting in a sump? Then feeding to the return pump, and that locline is attached to the return pump? I suppose it is, if so when the skimmer is on, then the flow is increased in that compartment. So anything in that compartment can be lifted back into the column. And through the baffles and into the DT. Likewise if the return pump has a slow flow through it, then bubbles can collect in the line. Well, debritous can too, as well as critters. If somehow the skimmer is creating more pressure through the line, ie increasing the flow through it somehow, increasing the water level in the return compartment, then these things can be dislodged from there hold.

I have been fighting with this stuff for almost 3 weeks. I had to take out the whole sump, silicone a new bubble trap, so I could have two. That solved the bubbl problem, but what in the world is the white stuff!

Here is the video...You can clearly see the stuff.

Could it be some sort of debris like sand?? At first, I thought it was little Styrofoam balls. I'm at a loss for the moment.

Ditto on the styrofoam balls. Lol. Looks like you have quite a bit of calcium buildup on your back wall, maybe it is just calcium deposits floating around in there. Can you catch one and maybe roll it in your fingers. This would let you know the texture and we then can go from there.

Man I have the exact same issue on my 300 gallon tank. I can not get rid of whatever it is. I have tried everything possible from socks both 100 and 200 micron redid my plumbing removing all loc-line reducing and increasing the return pump flow. Changing pumps from a barracuda gold to a gody gold and back again. none of this made any difference. Played with all the flow patterns on my tunzes no difference. It is very fustrating someboby must have an answer to this. The only different issue I have is it makes no difference with the skimmer on or off. I went from an ATB to a BK still no change. I feel like I need to offer a bounty on whatever it is. Whoever elimates it from my display collects the bounty. Sorry for hijacking your thread but I find it bazaar that nobody can help solve this porblem. HELP!!

It's not hijacking Tony, it's the same issue. Have either one of you captured this and either rolled it in your fingers or put it under a microscope (or magnifying glass) to try and determine what it is?? Styrofoam balls would be very easy to determine. But this sounds like it is something different. Very interesting to say the least.

I wonder if it is a byproduct of some reaction in your system??! Sort of like when you dose too much 2 part, it snows.

I have the very same skimmer as you I never had this problem. My NW110 is moded and puts out way more micro bubbles than it did stock. But I dont get any micro bubbles in the DT. I dont think this is from you skimmer. Test alk and ca levels, you may be having the ca snow effect. Do you drip kalk?

I tried to capture some in a clear glass but I could not see any in the glass. That leads you to believe it must be bubbles bhut there are not bubbles at all in the return section of my sump???

Guys thanks for the many replies! I looked closer this morning, and it looks like its coming from the drain.. I'm going to go take another look and see if I can put it under my microscope if I can find it.

Alright guys, this is 100% coming from the filter sock. It has no texture, well it probably does but I can't feel it on my fingers. It seems to just dissapear if I squish it.

I remember now I did add about 2 caps of seachem calcium because IO salt doesn't have enough, so I thought my cuc was going to have a bunch of failed molts so I went ahead and added some in a 2 week period.

the bubble traps are defenetley working, but this filter sock is the source. How do I fix this? wash it? remove it? I have 2 bubble traps.
