Bubbles under the mantle Big Derasa

I have a large Derasa about 14" across that has been in captivity for almost 9yrs. I noticed that it has been getting a build up of bubbles under the mantle in the center of the clam just above the inlet. The clam also as of late has been not opening as much as usual either. The bubble are very small and seem to want to break through the mantle and rise to the top.

Has anyone seen this before and what might be the cause?

thanks in advance

thanks Jeff,

I don't know if that is it but, I will have to look it up. Is it fatal? or is there a remedy should that indeed be it?

derasas & squamosas are a bit more prone to this than some others - when you see the bubbles & they clam doesnt open up all the way? Pick up and shake & roll him around underwater a bit - he'll open back up in a few minutes and burp the bubble out.;
