Bubbles!!!

Ok...When I switched out my mag7 for the mag9 for my return I bought a new peice of flexible tubing...I was getting a lot of bubbles with the mag 9 and I needed a pump to move water from the basement for water changes so I just decided to go back to the mag7...When I put that back on I am now having the same problem. I have turned off my skimmer and anything that might be producing bubbles in the sump and nothing seems to help. Could it be the tubing? I can't seem to find any holes or water leaking from the hose. Suggestions please

are the bubble bad or just unsightly?

Plus it goes from not too bad to terrible without messing with anything?

its got to be sucking air from somewhere- a loose connection or a tiny pinhole in the new tubing. i would try the old stuff if you still have it. i dont think its a pump problem if both are doing it and the 7 didnt do it before with the old tubing.

Make sure that your drain(s) is allowing plenty of water to drain from the tank. If it doesn't your pump will suck air.

I'm confused by this? If my pump is completely submerged, how can it suck air?

It can create a vortex of air and suck it in the pump!
But usually you should hear that and see it .

the water rushing past a loose fitting or pinhole can actually draw air in rather than push water out, exactly like a powerhead with the hose attachments

From your description of the bubbles going from not too bad to very bad there must be some factor that has nothing to do with a pinhole in a hose. A pinhole would pretty much put the same amount of air throught the hose consistantly.

I would watch the water level in the sump and see if it changes at all and if it does, I would try to find out why.
