Bubbletip2's 200 Gallon system

The live view feature sounds cool. I think they make that Sigma lens for my Pentax K10D...I'll have to add it to my Christmas list.

It is a nice range at 150mm - That means you don't have to be so close to your subject to get 1:1 macro. Also, it comes with a tripod mount ,hood, and really nice case which is fantastic for the price.

correct thread for your help!?!?

correct thread for your help!?!?

hey jim,<not trying to rip-off ur thread, but wasnt sure which one you wanted me to post on>

just wanted to ask you a quick question...i just got tank and stand in place and was wondering for my wet test if you could help me.

first, i bought new buckets and quick rinsed (no vinegar or anything) and filled them up. while filling them i usually put wax paper over lid to help keep things out but the paper dipped into one of the buckets a little bit. do i need to worry about chemicals from the buckets or wax paper?

second, do i want to wet test the system with or without salt(1.25 salinity) h2o mixture? if just water can i then add salt slowly to the system is leak free and no need for drainage?

third, after system is fine im going to order my rock from premiumaquatics. i was going to go with bali alor but the salesman said they didnt have any instock so going with timpora cause it seems light and porous but some pretty good size to it. just looks nice imo.

fourth, last but not least where is the best place for phos and carbon to pump into reactors and exit?

i apologize if wrong way to go about this and if much easier for you i can just give you a ring!?!? but just really close to launch time and getting really stressed cause i wanted it up about a month ago:(

anyone(JR cough cough lol jkin) please feel free to give me opinions......thanx you kindly and sorry if i messed this up...greatly apologize for rudeness and grammar errors hehe.

thanx happy_valley

I am still debating 50/50 between T-5 and halides and your look awesome. I was trying to keep the wattage as low as necessary that is why i originally was considering the T-5's do you have any thoughts on that.

WOW!!! Sorry for the delay. I have been hibernating this winter and focusing on my photography so I have not been on RC very much at all... Well I am back and ready to post again an updat ethis thread periodically....

Happy Valley,

The question about the buckets is a good one and something to be careful about. Some buckets are not good for mixing water - food safe containers should always be used if you can verify they are food safe for anything that will go into your tank.

I am sure you have done this laready but definitely wet test without the salt and then if you are good to go you can certainly mix the salt in the tank. This is the way I did it. Just keep the live rock out unil everything mixes.

For phosban and carbon I just use Phosban reactors and they get fed and and drain into the sump.

Thanks for the complement!

I think T5's are a great solution. They do need to be kept closer to the water's surface to get the best use out of them. But I have seen great T5 tanks so they will do just fine.

So about 2 weeks ago I set in 3 - 250w Reeflux 10K bulbs and was completely surprised with how bright these bulbs are. I immediately had to turn them down and started my light cycle at 4 hours with them. I am now up to 6 hours and have my dimmable ballast turned down a third. I will have some PAR tests done at different settings to give people an idea of what these can put out even turned down all the way...

Here are some pics under the 10K's cranked down a 1/3 from overdriving

I am going to start posting a bunch more videos for everyone to see. I am trying to not edit these so I can get them out quicker for everyone.

I thought I would post some video under 10K bulbs. For the video I actually turned down the dimmable ballasts all the way and was still getting numbers between 750-850 PAR at the surface. The key thing here is I basically turned a 10K bulb into the look of a 12K or 14K bulb and still have a good amount of light from them. At full or overdrived these bulbs are measuring incredibly high. Glad I have a PAR meter and a dimmable ballast with these because going from 1000/1100 FROM 12k to 1600 On these 10k's on the surface could mean baked corals even at 15" off the surface.

Hope you enjoy the video. I did absolutely no corrections to it and it appears after compressing it it came out a bit dark. Sorry about that but I really want to just bang some of these videos out so you guys can see them an not have to wait for the whole editing process which can take days. This video is right out of the camera.

Click on the watch in HD tab to get the best quality.

Jim, your tank looks great. I really like the video you posted - it makes me want to buy a nice HD camcorder of course. So thanks for that.

So what's the deal with your vanishing for 4 months? How is that even possible?

EDIT: I watched the video without the sound at first, but now that I've listened to the narration, I think you need to change your username to Bubbletip4. ;)

Bubbletip4 huh? Well over the last 4 months I have been spitting out a bubbletip each month. LOL! Been busy Marc. Holidays of course and generally I am just a crab in the winter. Too damn cold!!! I typically hibernate and work on all the photographs that have been sitting on my computer from the last 3 seasons. I have also been editing video from my Hawaii trip and will have that on You Tube in the upcoming days...

I will be surfing RC more often now that spring is coming...

More videos coming soon...

Thanks guys...:)

Skimmer is humming along nicely Jeremy... I hear you guys got Reeflo 200's for outrageous deals? Do you get a Gold motor with that? This thing pulls everything out within a couple minutes. Pretty incredible. I actually have it timed so when I feed it turns off for a half hour before coming back on just to let everything get consumed.

Ok here is part II of the video I have taken. Just to fill everyone in I shot all the video posted yesterday and today in less than an hour. It took me a half hour to cut the first video and 1 hour to cut the second video. Both videos took 30 minutes to compress into You Tube HD format and a half hour to upload to You Tube. 8gb files are compressed down to just under 400mb for You Tube.

I would like to get a bunch of videos done here and not spend an eternity editing... May get back to the footage some day to show you what the camera can do when corrected...

Keep attention towards the end of the video to see the tank under 10K bulbs cranked down 1/3 the way to see how much brighter it is then the rest of the video which was cranked all the way down. This will give you an idea if you look in the beginning of the first video and the end of the second to see the blue 10K and the much brighter white 10K.

Well enjoy the second part... should have more to come...

Thanks Marc! Already posted them there... I also have a really nice comparison video of the Reeflux 10K turned down on a Coralvue Dimmable ballast. It is pretty sweet that you can achieve 12K or 14K blue light just by turning them down...

Should be on here soon...
