Bubbletip2's 200 Gallon system

Wow that was quick. It took me one hour to cut, compress, and load this onto YouTube... Exactly how I want it... No fuss, just get the video out there...

Anyway, so here is the deal... I got a set of Reeflux 10K's that I have been anxious and a bit scared to try out. I knew they would be strong but not like this... I have seen so many numbers of them being close to a 12K and in my opinion they blow away a 12K for PAR. Not that a 12K is weak by any means.

So what I wanted to show you guys is how you can have multiple bulb sets in one with dimmable ballasts and with 10K's you will still get a ton of light.

I will be posting some PAR numbers of these 10K's in the upcoming weeks... I was hoping with all these PAR meters out there now that people would get off their rump and would have posted a bunch of numbers somewhere here on RC. Seems like a waste to not share what people are measuring...

Anyway another quick video so you can see the difference...

Jim, that last video is SWEET, I love how you put two on the same screen at once. How big is that file? I'd like to get a copy to show at our club meeting next week, as I'm doing a presentation on PAR, and would really like to show that simple yet clearly obvious clip.

Not a problem. I already sent you the file. It is 37mb I believe...

Thanks!

Here is a new full tank shot taken 2.6.09 I did make a lot of changes and typically do. Most of what you see here will remain in place. Not going to add too much more. Most likely will replace some current spots in the tank like the bali green slimer and the stag in the middle that is taking a downturn...

Thanks Bax!

Here are some top down shots I took last night. I took them through the water and not through a viewing box. Very difficult to get sharp photos this way but at least you can still see the coral.

I checked all my emails, but don't see it. Maybe you can upload it to your own site, and give me a link to download it from. Or try melevsreef via gmail, perhaps. I don't know if they have a filesize limit on emails.

Amazing how good corals can look when viewed from above. It would be nice if we could get that look from the front!

I thought I would try uploading an H.264 file instead of mpeg-4 to see how it does on You Tube. They recommend mpeg4 but I find it is way to choppy. Try this file out. This is in H.264 the way I would upload to vimeo... it plays a lot smoother...

I will be reposting the other two videos soon...H.264 is the way to go...

I just took this photo today and had to look around for a full tank shot so I can find this coral when I first got it. Over the last couple months it has been making some serious changes. I had actually seen it in the store for at least six months before I asked the owner how much he wanted for it. He gave it to me for $20 because it had always been this greenish/brown humilis that seemed like it had no hope. Well obviously that is not the case here because this little baby is one of the brightest blue/green's I have seen on a coral. I did not really notice it until yesterday when I moved it into a spot under the light where I could see it. It was always hiding behind the big stag in the back... Just goes to show you there maybe hope for some of those drab looking coral you have been passing up at the store...;)

I got this Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus) last summer. He has been the sole fish in my 30g cube that had been plumbed into the main system. I have always wanted one of these fish ever since I was 5 years old. At that time over, 30 years ago, I was fortunate to see saltwater fish in my own neighborhood. My older brothers' friend had ten to twelve small to medium sized tanks housing marine life. No coral back then but fish and critters. The first marine fish I ever saw up close was the Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish. I would go over there whenever my brothers would let me and the Fuzzy Dwarf was what I wanted to see. Especially to watch him eat and if I remember correctly he was feeding him guppies at the time. Probably not the best meal for a lionfish but was probably the norm at the time.

Well here you see me feeding my Fuzzy Dwarf Krill and Silversides. He gets ghost shrimp on occassion which he goes crazy for. I will have to shoot some footage of that in the future. It took me about 3 months to ween him off of ghost shrimp. He started taking krill first and would not touch silversides. Now he will eat a piece of silversides, typically not as big as what you will see in the video. Usually after he eats a silverside he is not interested in any more food. I typically feed him every 5-7days. I also soak his food in Selcon and Garlic.

The silverside in this video was eventually cut in half and fed to him. I could not get video of this because he swam back into the cave with it very quickly. I hope you enjoy the video. I will try to get some more footage up of this little guy in the future.

That clarity is really impressive. And I love that kind of lionfish myself, but haven't every gotten one.

I waited until now to get one myself. 30 years after wanting one. My original goal with the 30g plumbed in was to turn it into a sea grass fuge. I still may do that, but really as I have been filling the main display, the 30 has been some extra real estate for some frags and acclimating colonies. It really has been useful. I was thinking if this is a mini frag display why not pic one fish for the tank(species tank) kind of the way Evan used to talk. LOL! But seriously I saw this fuzzy and had the space for him. It was a no brainer.

The hardest thing about starting a sea grass tank is finding the sea grass. I wanted to do a few species of Halophila but found it impossible to find anything but halophila ovalis. Again I still may do it and I can still keep the Lionfish in there if I make sure he has some cover.
