Hi, I have the 12 gallon aquapod and I have 4 small bubles of buble algea on one of my live rock. Is this a probeblem? Could it be a problem? Please help.

I too have a 12 aqua pod and have the same problem with bubble algea. I was told though not to "pop" them cause they may be toxic to other fish in the tank. If anyone knows of any way to get rid of them that would be great to know LOL, thanks

If you can remove the rock that they are on and then remove the algae. If you pop them they will spread faster. Not toxic, just lots more bubble algae. Some people have had luck with emerald crabs.

Take the rock out of the tank, pull the algae off and dip in freshwater. I would probably even use a toothbrush to try to get every last bit of it off.

No, I dont think it would be a problem to keep it in. Bubble algae grows really slow. At least in my tank. I have a few pieces of it. It doesnt seem to spread very fast

yeah I just don't want to deal with it ever agian. It had to be on the rock right wear my pistol shrimp dug his hole.

I had these in my tank. I read somewhere to just pick it off. I just hand picked it off the rock. If you wait until it turns a dark green almost black the bubble will be harder. Then just gently roll it off the rock. Gently! It should just pop off, without much effort. On smaller ones its more difficult and I've actually had a few burst in my tank. I didnt notice a growth in "more". I did notice that by doing more water changes more frequently it reduced it drastically.

I have a JBJ 24 gallon. Filled with corals, and 2 fish (flame angel and blenny).

Before I was feeding 3 small portions a day. Now I alternate 1 and 2 feedings every other day.

Previously I was doing 2-3 gallons twice a week. Once I had the bubble algae problem I did a 5 gallon change. Followed by a 3 gallon change 2 days later. Followed by 3 gallon change 2 days later agaom. Then another 3 gallon change 5 days later. Then I did 3 gallons every 3 days for 2 weeks. Now, I'm doing 5 gallons on Mondays and 3 gallons on Fridays.

Once in a while I'll get the bubble algae, but not anything like I used to. Before it was totally out of hand.

Oh yah, I also added a really small powerhead to help with circulation. I think it only does like 44 gph. I got it for like $8.

I hand pulled the buble algea off. It worked great. Thier are some smaller ones that I don't want to pop so i am wating till they get bigger to pull them off. Thanks for the help.

I have never worried too much about bubble algae. There are alot worse things in a tank to try and eradicate. Unless it is very widespread, I wouldn't even worry about it.

Emerald crabs are the "recommended" solution for bubble algae, but my crab never touched the stuff. However, it does grow really slowly. The coralline algae was overgrowing the bubble algae in my prior tank.

I had one yellow polyp rock with several colonies. I used a sharp blade to scrape off the bubbles (from underneath without breaking them) which was effective in getting rid of them.

If you get emerald crabs to eat the bubble algae, wouldn't you think that judging by the size of their claws and mouths that they would have to burst the bubble to "eat" it. Therefore, making the problem worse? But thats only the case if bursting the bubble makes your problem worse.
