I'm not a chemist per se. I did minor in it, but I don't know if that'll help me here :)

When it gets humid and goes partially into solution, it's my understanding that you lose some buffering capacity (alk). You can make up for that loss with supplementation. It happened to me once with a bucket of Oceanic, and I just hammered a screwdriver into it and approximated the scoops until the salinity was right. Life went on.

why ditch it unless money is falling outta the sky? only water evaporates into air...not any trace elements right?

I think it will likely be fine. Just dissolve it and check the alkalinity. If it is OK then the salt is good to go. If it is too low (after any solids settle out), then you can boost the alkalinity and it will then be OK. :)

My lfs gave me a 50g mix of RC that was a solid block. Quite a bit didn't dissolve when I mixed it and the alk was 3 dKH. I just bumped up the alk with baking soda and used it.

ccccapt you just answered my next ? how do you bump it up. You know i knew answer to this ? After I read your post i remembered I remembered it. 55 years old this is not suposed to be !!!

For what it's worth I had a similar problem, but after hacking through a couple inches I found loose salt again, so maybe you'll luck out.

It should be fine. It has just absorbed water, it's not like you aren't going to throw it in water anyways. It may take a little longer to dissolve because the surface area has been reduced. Testing the parameters on a batch of the mixed water is always a good idea before using if you are unsure.
