Hi All,

need some help with identifying some critters in my quarintine tank. It's been about a week now since I added a flame angle and royal gramma to the tank as well as a ~5lb chunk of LR.

some algae has been growing and I noticed some new bugs living or grazing on the algae on the glass.

sorry, the macro shots aren't that great but here goes...

the first is some type of crustacean...looks like a snail shell, but under my pocket microscope i could clearly see legs. it's about 1mm

the second are a bunch of little worms...about .5 mm in length.

I'd like to know what these are and if they are harmful. Thanks in advance for all the help!

Try the invert forum, you will have better luck there.

Also see if you can get a pic of the other side as well.

Could it be a Conchostrachan or an Ostracod? They are two groups of crustaceans with a "bivalved"carapace. Conchostrachans are a type of braNchiopod (not to be confused with brachiopod). Maybe try googling those and see if they look similar.

HTH,
Kevin

well, whatever it was I went hypo on the tank and wiped it all out....good news is my flame angle and royal gramma are doing great! thanks for all the help!
