Hey Everybody,

PetSmiths http://www.petsmiths.com/ is a local fish store located @ 126 and Memorial.

The owner Travis is hosting a "Build a Sump" workshop. Basically you pre-order your sump materials from the company below, then bring your materials with you to "PetSmiths" for this hands on workshop.

If you don't need a sump, you could always build it, then sell it on craigslist or ebay and then use the money to buy more corals! :)

Here are the details:
Sat. April 9th 1pm
126th and Memorial "PetSmiths" shop

The workshop will be facilitated by Bobby Mercado who has many years of experience in reef keeping and building, repairing aquariums. He will assist in your "hands-on" building of your sump.

Materials can be aquired thru:

Sounds like a really great informative event. Does anyone have a pic of one of these sumps that has been done in the past. I've built alot of sumps but I usually just use an existing aquarium then silicone in glass baffles in the configuration that suits the setup. I like the idea of building a custom acrylic one that can be custom fit to any stand.

The sump builds are very fun.We have done a few in the past and always had fun.My first meeting in 2004 was a sump building meeting that Bobby had made.I should have had this info out a little sooner but there was a miscommunication.I had mentioned to a few people at the last meeting.I am defiantly going to hate missing this class.

Hopefully Petsmiths will have a good turnout and will want to do it again. If you do go (i'm going), be sure to mention you are with OMAS so Travis knows how many of our members showed up.

I just talked to Travis at Pet Smiths (new OMAS sponsor BTW) and it looks like he has Bobby helping with the class.I don't know if some or most know Bobby but he is a very good sump and over flow builder.Should be a very informative class.

The sump build on saturday at PetSmiths was GREAT. Lots of great information about how to successfully build a leak proof custom sump. If anyone is interested, we could probably get another workshop together in the next few months. Post here if your interested in attending the next build. Here is a link to some pictures of the build. http://photobucket.com/SumpBuild

You see many OMAS members show up to this event?Wanted to go but had made plans on the joint club meeting awhile back.

There were 5 people there to build sumps. 4 of the 5 were OMAS members. It was GREAT. Once you know how to do put acrylic together, your mind goes crazy over the possiblities. :)
