Hello from OBX

I have 125 Gal display tank that i bought a 40 Gal breeder for it so i can building a refugium sump with Ocean Octo Skimmer ..etc

Similar to this one here

My Q is :

How high should i build the baffles f

How many baffle per side based on that video i see 3 on some other i see 2 per side
Is 1.5' ~2 " between baffles is plenty

Is live sand ok to start with the in the refugium

What all should i include in my refugium media

Thanks in advance

From left to Right I have the refugium, skimmer and return. I made the refugium baffle (single) about 3" from the top, the baffles (two) between the skimmer section and the return pump are determined by how much water your skimmer requires plus a little more in case you get a different skimmer. I only used two baffles incorporating an over under design and i get no bubbles in the DT.

How low the baffle should be from the top, The skimmer manufacture recommend that it need to be in 6"-8" of water .

Baffles should be as tall as possible while taking into account the amount of overflow space you need for water to drain back into after a power outage and also height needed for your skimmer and any other requirements your specific system may have.. (specific heights for heaters and all other equipment)

Awesome , What is the space between the baffles should be ? Should i go under / over to refugio then over /under to lift pump meaning 4 dividers all together

The space between the baffles should be enough to support the desired flow rate in combination with the width..
3/4-1" is usually plenty in most applications..

4 baffles should be just fine
