Bulb temp/color question.

Hello all.

I've got 4 T5HO bulbs/reflectors over my 55g. Two 12000K bulbs, and two superactinic. It's always looked kinda green to me, and I've never been happy with the colour...

... then I installed a new fan (a much higher output fan). Within minutes of turning it on, the light turns a beautiful white/blue... at least I think so. I've turned it off and on 10 times now, thinking I must be crazy.

Here's the question.
1. Does external bulb temperature affect colour? or am I going crazy?

Absolutly. Especially if you've got a setup where the bulbs are too close together and are "cooking" each other.

Wow, that explains my setup exactly. I still can't get over what a hugh difference it makes... the trouble is, the new fan sounds like a jet engine...

...maybe those IceCap fans are worth the money...

IC fans aren't all that quiet. Use a larger fan that runs at a slower speed
