Bulk Carbon and GFO

I need to replace the carbon and GFO in my reactors soon and instead of buying the small, high $$ quantities that my LFS offers, I would like to order in bulk this time around.

I know of the following distributors:

Bulk Reef Supply
- Lignite Carbon
- Rox 0.8 Carbon
- Granule, Pellet, and High Capacity GFO

- All carbon is noted to be washed with Hydrochloric Acid

Get Tanked Aquariums
- Bituminous Carbon
-Granule GFO

- All carbon is noted that no chemical activation or washing with phosphoric acid, zinc or hydroxides that my leach in to your aquarium water column

Which would be the best items to purchase for use in reactors?

I will go out on a limb and say Granule GFO over pellet or HC but as for the carbon im not 100% sure

As for GFO I order the pellets from BRS, the carbon I order in 30 lb buckets from some guy on ebay, sorry I don't remember the seller name but it is some of the best carbon I have ever used.

I use the bulk GFO pellets from Bulk Reef Supply, and the Lignite carbon from Bulk Reef Supply. Both are great. The lignite carbon is a little more dusty than what I'm used to (black diamond), but it works great. Needs a lot of rinsing though.

Another +1 on BulkReefSupply's stuff.

I use their lignite carbon and pellet GFO. The pellet GFO is sweet, it doesn't get spit out of the reactor.

Why pellet over granule? I would think granules would allow the media to tumble better in a reactor.

I use the ROX 8.0 carbon and like it a lot. IIRC, that is Randy's favorite too.

For GFO I use the pellet stuff.

Agreed :)
