Bulk Reef Supply RO units- Buyers Beware

I've been buying most of reefing stuffs from BRS and I know their customer service is top notch compare to other internet vendors even better to actual manufacturer customer service.

I do not understand why some people are not happy with his info sharing on the forum after all this is place where people share their experiences with reefing related things.

I do agree with someone mentioned that he should have studied more about the unit before purchasing since the item isn't just plug and play and get the same result.

I've learned something today from this and it will be helpful in my future purchase.

I'm glad he shared this information. If I ever need a 150gpd unit, I would think twice about buying the BRS unit. Not to say I wouldn't buy their other products. BRS is my primary go to for fish supplies and will continue to be so.

I've had an unrelated issue with BRS and they resolved it no questions asked. So in the beginning when he said they wouldn't resolve the issue, that was surprising to me. But eventually BRS stepped up and that's the BRS I know!

Stop bashing him, he is doing all of us a service by keeping us informed. That's how we all learn to be better reefers is by information people post.

thanks for sharing the info jrpdriver and kudos to BRS...i think the thing that most people lost sight of was the fact that he was just asking for a disclaimer on their website, something that was listed in their manual that could potentially be useful to some buyers. that is a reasonable thing to know before you purchase the unit.

happy reefing.

jrpdriver is right - we absolutely were missing that disclaimer on our product pages. Thank you for taking the time to post so we could fix this! The updates are live on our site :) (the link in the original post is clipped for some reason which is why the 404 is showing up)

Thanks!

so why did you switch?????

because my spectra unit was old, I've had it for many years, it was time to replace membranes and filters again, so I decided to purchase a whole new unit and I thought I would get even better performance

mods can we please close this thread, BRS has taken care of the issue with me, they are updating their listing on their website, I am happy with the resolution, BRS stepped up and took care of the situation

Awesome, now everyone is happy!

There units are awesome and all systems will be the same. Do your home work next time.

No your not, you are bashing BRS.

No you are actually bashing BRS. Why didn't you start by asking if anyone had any solutions? I asked you above which problem you were having to see if we could make some suggestions and you didn't answer.

Asking for help is asking for help, complaining without asking for help is Bashing. There are ways to get your TDS down before it enters the filter. There are ways to increase pressure. There are ways to raise the temp of your water to make it more efficient.

But you didn't ask about any of those.
I guess BRS disagrees with you too.

BRS- you started out slow in the first half but really fired up and played a great second half. Well done!

its all about psi. an ro membrane can handle upwards of 150psi+ the high pressure = better water.

Also this is not BRS fault. All pressure style (Standard) RODi work the exact same way. You could have bought a $600 spectrapure with all the bells and whistles and you would have had just as poor performance. Its a shame you chose to bash BRS instead of asking "Hey why does my rodi suck"?

but thats not what happened. his old spectra unit did preform better.

sounds like it all got sorted but i would like to know the difference in the two. why would the spectra unit have far less water waste compared to the brs at the lower PSI

If the old one performed any better a: I want proof, and b: could be rejection rate. If he had a spectra 99% over a standard 90 or 92. Perhaps the pressure has dropped over time or a line block someqherw. You have to have 55psi minimum especially if it's a double unit. If it's a double rodi in series you need 80 psi.

the spectrapure has more waste water, thats why its rejection rate is higher at lower psi. The rejection rate is the amount of TDS it is taking out of the source water, its not a measure of how much waste water is coming out of the unit. the BRS is designed to have less waste water, its a water conservation feature, it has to do with the way the waste lines are plumbed off the membranes and the size of the restriction in the lines.

there are other factors involved, some units have a 4:1 waste water ratio, while others are 2:1 or even 1:1. A lot of newer units seem to be shooting for the lower waste water ratios in an effort to conserve water. Thats one reason a unit that is designed with a higher waste water ratio could have a higher rejection rate at lower psi

I'm glad BRS took care of it and it shows that they in fact are a quality company that will stand behind their products, they've got my business for sure.
