bulkhead sizes for a quiet Calfo overflow

I'm wondering what size of bulkeads i would need to feed a moderate flow to my sump

I'm planning on using a mag 7 or possibly 9.5 as my return pump, with the main circulation being handled by a manifold closed loop

I would like to avoid the gurgling and sucking noises from the overflow

I will be making this mod on a 40g breeder and a 75g aga. Anything that I would do different for these 2 tanks?

The 40 already has 2x 1 1/4" bulkheads drilled in the upper back corners. Was going to drill the sump return right below the overflow box in the center. The 75 doesn't have any holes in it yet, so i'm looking for ideas on placements

I'm a fan of less but larger holes. Rather than the typical 1" bulkheads (1.75 hole)... I like to drill just one or two 2.5" holes (for home aquaria 100 gallons or less) and have the bulkhead vented (tee off bulkhead... see Steve Pro's gallery for an example if I recall correctly).

one other quick question... my 75g is primarilay LPS and I plan to keep it that way (some ricordia and zo's) would a manifold with say 6 outlets providing like 200gph each be better than a design say for sps?

just wondering because the LPS seem to like slightly slower flows in general

200 gph effluents would be a tiny trickle... even if the nozzles were small (1/2" eg)

A decent rule of thumb is to have at least 1 nozzle per 10 galls (say 8 nozzles here for you) and 300-400 gph minimum per outlet. I'd say you need about 3000 GPH to serve this tank. If say 1000 gph run the sump loop... then you need say a 2000 gph pump to drive a loop with five effluent tees to do the rest of the work. More would be better actually.
