i love angels and butterflies, but have been avoiding them because of my corals...i have decided to have my sps and lps in two smaller tanks, and turn my 175g reef into an angel/bf tank..

i dont want to totally give up corals in it though, and was thinking maybe I should go with softies in there...

would this be an ok stocking fish wise?

saddled bf
bluestripe bf
copperband bf
pyramid bf
atlantic longnose bf
imperator angel
regal angel
magnificent foxface

what corals could I have in there with these? would leathers and toadstools be ok? any others that might be ok?

thanks

I think the first two Butterflys would be 'iffie' but hopefully they would not bother these 'noxious' coral....Angels seem to prefer 'meaty' corals such as open brains and clams so those should be okay.

thanks, im more interested in building the corals around them.. any suggestions as to what corals would work?

Your on the right track with the leathers, softies. Most fish will leave them alone....But some Butterflies will eat ANYTHING:rolleyes: Hopefully if you keep yours well feed, they will stay away. Algae strips in the tank throughout the day would help as well as a couple of feeding each day.. My Raccoon is the reason I have two tanks:rolleyes: He has quite the appetite for corals.
Also, place the Emperor in last, it will be king of the tank;)

thanks, thats worth knowing :)

i actually enjoy feeding fish a lot...i kept purple queen anthias which i had to feed a minimum of 5 times a day, unfortunately i went overseas for 3 weeks, and when i came back the two times a day that someone was coming in wasnt enough, plus i sprang a leak at my skimmer, so it was a mess, but its given me the opportunity to make the switch

someone suggested mushrooms, are ricordea a high or low risk? they also suggested gsp, frogspawn and hammer coral...any ideas

:)

Mushrooms ..I know my Raccoon loves them;) Of course your choice in butterflies for your reef are somewhat better than my Raccoon ..If you try them, try something inexpensive first ;)

lol... will do... looks like it may be a process of trying a few cheap corals and seeing what happens :)

Your emperor will eventually clean out all your corals. It wont be until he is around 7". Once he is big enough, there will not be a safe coral in your tank.

My emperor and blueface cleaned out my entire reef. Had them in the reef for 18 months and never touched anything. Then one day...they tasted some and it was all over.

I had mushrooms, zoas, ployps, torch, frogspawn, hammer, gonoproia, toadstools, devils hands, ridge leather, GSP, pulsating xenia, clams, rose/carpet/long tentacle anemones, list goes on.

Everything was a meal. The anemones lasted a couple of days before the angels went to town.

would a majestic be a better option with noxious softies?

hehe when you've kept your emperor for it grow 7+ inches, you certainly would value it over a few corals.

you're probably right :)

any views on a majestic?

The only coral that I would bet any sum of money to survive would be mushrooms. There are lots of different kinds that are actually pretty neat. They would not even care if the water quality got out of whack a little bit.

You could try some macro algae too if that interests you. It is always possible that an angel might eat it, but probably not.

haha, there are some nice shrooms indeed... any you'd recommend as less edible than others

hmmm... macro, id assumed that'd be eaten.... whats less edible?

There is no ANGEL to be trusted with any Polyp'y (LPS) corals. End of story. If you want to keep corals then look at SPS and nasty Leathers. Otherwise your out of luck.

thanks, my lps are moving to a new tank as are my sps, my zoas have their own dedicated tank to move to as well :) so nasty leathers and shrooms it looks like :)
