Button Polyp Colony in a Sponge?

Picked up a colony of button polyps at the LFS this weekend, they are rooted in a sponge. I'm wondering if the sponge will cause problems later on if starts to break down? Also, does anyone know if it's common for these polyps to 'root' in sponges? Not sure what sort of buttons exactly (see pic).

I had the EXACT same thing happen. However i had the polyps first...then the sponge took off and started growing in and around them just like yours. The polyps are not "rooted" to the sponge...the sponge just grew around the polyps.

Eventually my polyps kept getting worse and worse. It was covering a big rock tho, and sponges are good filters, so i just threw it in the sump so i'm not sure how the polyps are doing now (prolly gone since there's no light, but they were almost gone when i put them in there).

Maybe you can pick it off? But if you do, make sure you get ALL of it, because if a sponge dies, it causes a bit more trouble than most other things would.

Sidetracked, but i dont think those are button polyps...arent those some sort of zoa or paly?

Could be, my ID's are a little weak right now since I'm pretty green in the reef game. Anyone else with an ID?

i have the exact same ones and have been told they are zoa's...but i too dont know...here is a pic of mine sharing a rock with what i think are bam bam's...not too sure on them either..

what lighting is you rpic under..i have seen my zoos under 150w 20000 coralife HQI and the frills actually glow green...these are very cool looking, in this pic it is just low PC lighting though
