Hi all
I'm trying to get some advice on an unusual problem - a fish with buyancy problems.
Background:
Fish - Anoplocapros lenticularis
Bought about two week ago.
Been feeding frozen (thawed out obviously) Gamma Shrimp.
Fish incredibly tame, and been squirtng water out the top of the tank.
Saw a few days ago fish '****' sorry cannot spell technical term, floating in tank.
first week ran tank at 23oC
slowly been dropping temperature most of the week been 21oC and for the last few days 20oC.
Slight mark under fish, whitish about 3mm in diameter, thought it may have been start of bacterial infection, treated for 24 hours, just in case, now concluded that this was probably sall pysical damage cased by him tring to get to the other part of the tank via a rough opening.
Fins and eyes look clear.
Been feeding about three or four time a day, but for the last two days, my wife, didn't feed until the evening, and fed twice.
Tank, part of a 800 gallon system, fish on it's own, water turned over from main system about 3 time per hour, good circulation, by Canister filter and airstone (the airsone isn't blasting air into tank)
Problem:
two days ago
momentarily saw fish swimming near the top sideways and very pale in colour, when he saw me he started to beg for food.
yesterday, fish has boyancy problems, and fins seem to be working very hard to get to the bottom of the tank, and occassionally floting 'bottom up in the tank'.
Other than this, fish looks fine, although suspect, long term prognosis will not be good.
Thoughts:
Has running the tank temperature caused some kind of internal air issue, remembering warm air is more buyant than cold ?
Has he got trapped air, is it likely that the fish will absorb vent it ?
Can it be vented manually ? (think very dangerous)
Could there be trapped food, fermenting insde the fish ?
Has his repeated 'begging for food' at the surface caused him to inhale air ?
Action:
Dropped temperature, over night to 18oC.
Will not feed today (not too sure if this is good or bad).
Seeking advice from the internet community.
Does anybody have any suggestions.
Thanks in anticipation.
