I got a really good deal on a 2 year old used Tunze 6100 with a controller and deco rock and was wondering if there were any problems that I should look out for because of the age. The owner assures me that it runs great.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade to the new 6100.70 drive units, if for no other reason than at 2 years a fair amount of wear has likely occured and it will give you a fresh start.
The main problem is that you never know how well someone cared for a used item. In my opinion it is just simpler than inspecting everything and being sure it is thoroughly clean and it never hurts to have a spare of a vital part like a drive unit. I see it at least once a week where a critical part was neglected in cleaning and caused a pump to fail. Starting with new parts is just an easier way to go. Keep the old ones as spares.
Are those the only wearable parts in the pump? (sorry for the hijack). I have a couple of 6100s on order and I am trying to learn as much as possibly before they arrive.
That is pretty much it, like any impeller assembly they wear, depending on how well cared for they are you will need new ones every 2-5 years, the biggest variable is keeping them clean and keeping sand out of the pump.
