Trying to locate some live rock for a reasonable price , anyone have any suggestions on where to purchase , need enough for a 130gl tank,, been looking on e-bay still seems kind of costly , never would of thought a little sand and rock would cost
this much , lol thanks, Chris

Can lava rock be used as base also and then turned into live, or will lava change any of the chemical compounds in the tank?

Aviod lava rock. It has the potential to leech metals into the water and is too dense provide the same fucntions as a more porus reef type rock.

Premium aquatics has awesome rock. I did the base rock when I set up my tank, and when i set up my next tank it will be all live rock. So much easier during the cycle period I think

I just bought 45 lbs of live rock from liveaquaria.com. It cost $162.54 (includes shipping). I'm supposed to receive it on Thursday (tomorrow). I'll let you know if it's crap or ok stuff.

I bought 2 of the 45 lbs. boxes of LR from liveaquaria.com and I'm happy with it....the only thing is I wish they had some smaller pieces, but that's what the chisel is for...:)

You may want to try your local reef club. I have been able to find many great deals through ours here in Dallas.

Good luck!

I bought some Bali LR phishybusiness and it was awesome. Tons of good hitchhickers, all colors of coraline, sponges, feather dusters. I picked it up local so I don't know what shipping is. I wish I would have bought all my rock there. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

buy it used!

when you get to be an expert (and have a fat wallet!) then buy new liverock.

check craigslist.org or local reefers clubs etc

regards
