Byopsis breakout

Good day.

I've had a byopsis breakout. 80% of my rock is covered. I want to use fluconazol but I live in China and can't find the reef type. Can I use normal human fluconazol? Please advice.

I suspect that you'll be fine, but taking a few steps to check the medication might be useful. Do you know exactly what is in the product that you have? Fluconazole should all be the same, but the fillers could be an issue, at least in theory.

AFAIK.. The "reef type" is the same product just marketed towards the reefing community..

Just like slapping a sticker on some vinegar and calling it a "Reef Carbon Supplement"

So I’m on day 2, dosed it on Sunday. It seems like the small patches is dying, but not much happening on the big clumps and rocks that 90% covered. I dosed 9mg/L, mixed it with WC water as I was filling up the tank after I did a 20% WC. I removed the carbon, removed filter socks, removed skimmer cup, still running carx reactor, kept lighting the same, still running zeovit reactor.

Fish, inverts and corals all seem happy.

If I need to dose again, after how long would be a safe time to do so?

Its not "instant"...
It can take like 2 weeks for bryopsis or more for hair algae...

I used it a few months ago. 3 weeks later there wasn't a thread of it in the aquarium. Just be patient.

In my experience it starts showing results by seeing the ends of the algae getting lighter in color then working its way back down to the roots and rock. Chunks will break away and clog the filter so stay on top of export of the dead algae.

I can see on some places the tips going lighter, you can almost see the segments breaking down. I don’t know the exact amount of water in my system, so I’m scared I added too little. I’ll wait for the 14 days to pass and keep you updated.

Flucanazole is the active ingredient.

'Human' versions are typically used for yeast infections in ladies, and often have added ingredients (From what I found) and cost an arm and a leg more. In Canada its prescription only so it can be difficult to find, but it was something like 500$ to treat my aquarium with what would have been 30$ if I could buy it by the gram as I can in the US.

I'm on day 6 of the treatment, not seeing the desired results. Please confirm that I am dealing with bryopsis.

That looks more like hair algae, Fluconazole will still work on it but take longer. These are progressive pictures of the effects of Fluconazole on Bryopsis. If I remember correctly it took about a week after dosing to start to see anything happen.

I agree that the alga doesn't look like Bryopsis.

looks like GHA, and you need to give it more than 6 days. You'll start seeing results slowly and the algae will start to dissipate over the next 2-3 weeks. Like all things with this hobby, be patient its not a quick fix.
