Byrdman's 20L

Well today i went out and purchased my 20L tank and a 100 watt heater. I also ordered the Current 30" Sundial T-5 Fixture 4 x 24W just a little while ago. I have got to go out to the store and find some Krylon Fusion to paint the back of the tank black. At first i was thinking about making this tank and AIO but i dont want to take up 20% of the tank. I feel like with the 30-50% weekly WC i can keep excess nutrients at a minimum without trying to grow macroalgae. I am thinking about purchasing some black acrylic and covering up my heater. I am a tool and die maker so i will take it to work heat it up to bend it and cut slotes in it to allow water flow around it still.
This tank will consist of a shallow sandbed just for asthetic reasons with around 20-30 lbs of live rock from my 75 gallon reef I will be tearing down once the stuff is sold. I will probably just have a pair of clowns and a pair of firefish. I think any more fish than that would probably be overstocking it. I want to keep this tank mainly SPS i believe but i will probably for sure put my duncan corals from my 75 in there . With that being said I see most of you have these mp10 for the powerheads. Im not for sure i can justify spending that kind of money on one when i can get two korillia PH of maybe just one bigger korillia or one Tunze and get the adequate flow that i need. What does everyone else think. As I mentioned in another post this wont have a sump or a skimmer because of the space contraints in our room. I hope to get some pics up or the tank and the painted background tomorrow.

Sounds cool, can't wait to see your pic's.

Trying to decide if i should spend the money on a mp10 or just get couple korilla's or a tunze. Im not sure what ill do yet, the difference in price is just more coral i can buy. I painted the back of the tank tonite. I have one more coat to do tomorrow then I'll snap a photo of the empty tank. Sold almost all of my coral out of my 75 today. Plan on ordering some kind of powerhead tomorrow and hopefully the lights will come later this week. I also will hopefully get to Lowes to buy my screen frame for my netting to keep my fish in the tank.

Your setup sounds alot like my current build, and i too would like to get the MP10 but i saw last night where koralia has a new powerhead. Looks a little different and maybe something you might want to check out.
Did you notice that the fixture you ordered is on sale at petmountain?

By the time i paid for shippig it would have been about the same. I paid 250 for mine. What is the korillia called?

I went ahead and bought a tunze nano 6025. I will take a pic of the tank in the room tomorrow when i get home from work. Just waiting on the lights and powerhead before i pull rock and coral out of my 75. Also need to make my netting cover for the tank

Keep us updated on how the Tunze works out. I have a 20G L also and so far my smallest powerhead a Maxi-jet 900 is pushing too much flow and causing sand storms.

Re: Byrdman's 20L

Here is framing for my screen netting cover. Pic is from my iPhone so that's why the bottom is cut off lol. I hope to add the clear 1/4 netting today after I wake up.

No way fish is jumping out of that thing!!! The only thing left to do is once i place the heater and the ph the cords that run over the side i will take a dremel and cut spots out of the edge to make it sit flush on the lid again.
One more pic of it finsihed.

Re: Byrdman's 20L

I only have to notch it out for a power cord to go through. It's not going to look much different.

Re: Byrdman's 20L

Well my tunze powerhead came in and my lights are supposed to be here today so even if lights don't show I will add water and live rock this weekend and wait on coral. Since I don't have a sump my heater will be in the dt tank so I ordered a black piece of acrylic and drilled a bunch I holes on it and heated it up and bent it. I think it turned out decent. I still may hide or partially hide it behind live rock still not sure.

Also in the background of the ORA Plum Crazy pic there is the cover that i made for my heater.Hopefully you cant see it cause that means its blends in well with my background.!!!

I got the last two fish out of my 75 tonite and placed them in a qt tank that I set up. The reason I done this is because one fish is a clown and in going to buy another one and I want them to get to e together when I buy the second one and I'm nit putting any fish in the dt without being treated or monitored to make sure they don't have parasites or what not. The other fish is my firefish which I believe may have black ich although I'm not or sure because these darker spots have been on him for a while and I believe that black ich still comes and goes like the normal marine ich. Anyway my tank will stay fishless for a bit so for the time being I'll probably just do five gallon wc weekly or biweekly and just dose esv until I add fish and then do a little bit bigger wc after that. I do put algal on a clip at night for the crabs and the snails which don't have much to eat since there isn't any algae on my new glass.
