Byrdman's 40 Breeder

Well the return line is drilled and I have the overflow box I made siliconed in place. Only thing I need it to buy a couple fitting from Lowes and some flex tubing and I'll have this baby inside here soon. Here are a couple pics of my overflow box I made.

Nice start. I like the stand. I also have a 40b with a 20g sump ;) I use 1 MP40w for flow. I run on reefcrest at around 85-90%, no sand storms or dead spots.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear that someone else is using a MP40 with no problems. Makes me feel better about my purchase.

Its coming along nice!! I have a 40b as well. For lights, I use a nova extreme pro, and for pumps, i use a marineland 4500 as a return, and have one maxijet 1200, and two korralia nanos in the tank for flow. I have a 20 tall tank turned into a custom sump/fuge.

...cant wait to see it come along!

I still have a mixed reef, but it has been evolving into a full blown SPS tank over the past yr. It's hard to just walk away from LPS and Z & P's. I think the combination is really something unique. Keep the pics rolling :)

Thanks for the kind words guys. I wish I could move faster with setup but I'm so busy at work and at home I feel like its going fairly good.

Looking good. I too am doing a slow build up of a 40br. Here's some pics of my stand after it's first coat of stain. I will build the doors at a later date. I also put levelers on mine but I put 8 just for piece of mind. You can see them in one of the pics.

Here you go. I ordered my acrylic for my overflow and wavebox as well as my bulkheads yesterday. I should be getting my glass baffles for my sump made on Monday and will be picking up my RTV103 from Grainger on Monday as well. Hopefully over the next two weeks I will have it plumbed and ready for pumps and water. I still need to find out what I did wrong with my DIY 6091 controller for the wavebox but that should be an easy fix. Oh and I need to build my second rock formation as well.

I ordered my glass for my sump and I'm going to pick that up this afternoon. I decided to use a29 gallon for the sump since it's just sitting around and fits under the stand. I also ordered 50lbs of Fiji rock from brs that will be here today too. I will be putting it together with acrylic rods to keep it secure. Will post pics as the stuff gets completed.

Cool. I look forward to seeing how it turns out. My sump is done and I am going to step outside and start cutting my overflow baffle and building my wave/surge box.

Ok I worked on my rockwork today and got another baffle in my sump siliconed in. I ran outta silicone so I have to go purchase more. I originally bought acrylic rods to attatch my rock work together but as I started doing this I realized what a PITA it is. I really love the fiji rock that BRS sent me it was absolutely awesome quality. I do have a few acrylic rods here and there and in some pieces I felt I just couldnt do without. In the end the rock was so porous that it was hard to follow where I drilled and getting the rock to cooperate the way I wanted after the rod was in place just didnt sit well with me. Anywhere here are a couple pics of what I came up with.Overall I am satisfied with this layout and I think it will provide me with the feel I would like once corals are placed in the tank. Thoughts opinions are welcome as it will be a few days before there is sand/water in this thing.

I have heared that it is easier to drill the rocks after they have been wet for a while.

Ran out of silicone...? I bought one tube from Grainger (caulking gun size) and did my 4 baffle plus my overflow wall and I still have half the tube left lol.

lol I think you are thinking of silicone not acrylic.

Drilling was easy I was using a masonry bit. It just stinks trying to get rock to sit where u want it after inserting rods.

I see. Thus why I am just building my own rocks. BTW my tank is ready for plumbing. I start my work week tonight so I will be plumbing next week.
