Is there any relatively safe way to remove a clam from its mount? The local shop has a max thats firmly attached to a big rock and the person helping me didnt want to remove it. Couldnt he just tease the foot until it lets go?

Hi Chris,

You can actually damage it by rocking it back and forth. What you want to do is get a brand new blade, wipe it with alcohol and Iodine for sterilization. Now you can lift the blade slightly and cut the bysal thread closes to the rock where it has attached to. Now you are done.

I have done this myself a few times. I got this instruction from Daniel Knop's book.

Note: Not responsible for mishandling and death of your clams
