Byssal Threads, Pyramellid Snails, and Me

Ok thatnks to some great advice, my maxima is now upright on a rock, thanks mbbuna. My next question is how to inspect for Pyramellid snails. My Maxima should be easy once he gets his byssal threads into the rock I've got him working on, but my Crocea is BIG (5" shell) and his byssal threads are probably allready into the rock he's on. How do I check for the little snail critters in a couple months since he's on a BIG rock which is not convenient to move. Should I not bother if the clam looks healthy?

to inspect for the snails check a few hours after lights out with a flashlight. shine on the mantle and look for white cone shells. then shine on the bysal base to see if you can make out anything. try moving your crocea to a smaller rock asap just in case you wanted to inspect him in the future. i would not bother as long as they look healthy, but if you have recently added new clams, then i would be cautious. hth

dont wait for a couple of months. look for them every week or so after dark as EZ said. if you do have pyrams, you will see them feeding at the growth edge of the clam
