ABout 6 months ago i tried doing a closed loop and i had an OR 6500 well the flow was very weak. So i just took it down and was done with it.

What is a good pump, That wont break the bank money wise and especially wattage wise.?

It can be internal ot external pump almost prefer the external.

Thanks

Davey

The OR 6500 is a great pump. Why was your flow weak? Do you have plumbing restrictions or something on either the suction or discharge side? In a closed loop situation you should get gobs of flow from that pump. I use a 3500 through a Oceans Motions Squirt two way and its fantastic.

Go with a Sequence pump. The Snapper will put out 2500gph on less than 100watts. The Dart will put out 3600 on 135watts. Both are a little more expensive than the OR 6500, running in the $175-$220 range. Very quiet as well.

No idea.

All i know is the output was super weak. I thought it would be awesome as well.

I copied the deisgn like on melevs site. except he uses a mag.

I sold the OR, unfortunetly awhile ago.I set it up externally also

I looked up the Sequence snapper since i like the low wattage.

Seems nice, still havent pulled the trigger but found it for $185 on sale with free shipping.

So. this will give me lots of flow?

Well, it's 2500gph with minor head loss due to friction and elbows, so the flow will be dependent on how many returns you have. ie) 4 returns = 625gph roughly. The OR 6500 only puts out 1700gph and runs on about 115 watts. If you want to be sure of lots of flow, move up to the dart at 3600gph, and that is only 135watts. Either will be a huge improvement over the OR 6500.

man that doesnt seem like that much if you do it by 4. 625 seems kinda weak, is it not?

Its for a 180 gallon tank dims are 6X2X2

I guess 2 in the corner and 2 in the middle?

It depends on what other flow you have in the tank. You will have your return pump as well, and if you think about it, 4 returns at 625 is considerably more than most powerheads, with the exception of Tunze's and such. Being a closed loop, you can go as high as you like. I have read about a lot of people using Baracudas and Hammerheads as well, but the flow from 4 returns with those would be severe. You can always step up to the dart for 900 gph per return. The system that I am currently building will actually use 2 snappers on 2 closed loops, with a snapper for the system return. So 3 snappers for a 250, using OM 4 ways to control the flow. If that ends up being too much, I can always cut it back via ball valves. I considered using a larger pump on a single CL with an OM 8 way, but I wanted the added flexibility.

Should i also do a OM squirt? probably 4 way?

I have 2 Seio 1500's a Maximod 900, maxijet 1200's and 1 MJ900 and 1 MJ600 and th return pump which is a OR3500

If hes seeing restriction from a OR6500, he'll get about the same from a Dart. THe plumbing is the issue here.

A dart is 160w, not 135.

Look into the Laguna Maxflow 2400. Just as efficient as a snapper, but quieter.
