c-sea is down?

Some interesting details from the domain "bank"..... The expiration date was May 16. After five days it can be purchased by a third party and we lose it. If we buy it under another name during that period, then we are the third party. We get the domain name but lose the pages and can't use (register) the domain until the 30 day redemption period passes. If we renew it for a year, it's $35. If we are late, it's $35, plus another $99.

Quote: "There are several steps after your domain expires to safeguard you from losing any domains you want to keep.
60-days* before your domain(s) expire we will send notices reminding you to renew them. The exact expiration date can be seen in your account.
If the domain expires it may still be maintained in the registration database for a 5-day* grace period where it can be renewed at the normal renewal price. During this time all services such as hosting or email will not be active.
After the grace period it will be deactivated and placed into a 30-day* Redemption Period (Note - Some domains may not make it to the redemption period if they are purchased by a third party. Be sure to renew your domains before they enter redemption status.)
Once the Redemption Period has elapsed the domain may be registered by another party. "

---And all that's without getting into the really fine print.

I think the domain issue has been resolved.

Just an update It appears that the Domain transfer is in the final stages and hopefully the site back up within the week. Thanks for everyone's patience.

Was this site hosted by the place where the domain was registered? Is the site not backed up on a simple cd-r somewhere? If it is hosted elsewhere we should still be able to get to all the pages from the hosting co. It couldn't have been more than a couple megs. Most html editing progs will require a copy of the pages to be on your hard drive for making changes then they are uploaded when they are ready.
Did anyone try to login to the FTP and download copies of the pages when we got the login/password?

If the whole site has to be redone I hope the pages will be backed up by the creator in the future.

Kevin, the server is hosted by Kazaa, the domain is with godaddy. Paul C has been out of town so we haven't talked yet about backups he has or anything yet. But, I am basically rewriting the whole site (creative prerogative :) ), and am incorporating all the ideas put on the table so far. I do want to get a look at the old pages and content on them hopefully.

Tomorrow I'll put up a link to the VERY VERY quick and dirty rough draft of a couple of the pages. It'll take time to get the bells and whistles like forums, stats, logins, 'maybe' chat room, pic galleries (come on folks, send me pics of your tanks, your favorite fish/coral/mermaid, give me fun stuff!!). It'll just give everyone something to 'stare' at basically, lol.

In the meantime, John J has the domain and server hosting side moving along, so hopefully by next week we'll be online again to some extent.

Since your post was done on 5-27-06 it is really a mute post as the 5 days is already long past. We are working on a transfer of the domain name from the current listed administrator to a new administrator which should be completed sometime this week. There is conflicting information as to the expiration of the domain in the whois listing depending on where you look. We hope to have things back up within the week, let's everyone keep their fingers crossed.

It's the point of the post that the date has passed, so that is not moot. Moot would be if you find that someone has purchased the c-sea.org. name.

It was available for many months at one time before while we used a different URL, and we could have bought it then, but there was no need to. We had a high ranking with search engines and a lot of traffic on the website, until we changed. Whatever you have, is what you want to keep, so that you don't lose lose any users. Generally people click bookmarks, or URL they have been sent, rather than memorize URLs. If we did end up with a different URL, it would not matter except in the short run of trying to keep all our users informed of the change. Killing the website temporarily has much the same effect, so if you want moot, then I'd have to agree if you took it from that tangent. It is unfortunate that there had to be a down time, that some other way couldn't have been worked out. It's good that something new should be up soon.

Thanks for everyone's patience The C-sea website is back online just as it was and we can now continue to move forward.

Also, I am totally unhappy with the temp site I put up..I am rewriting it today, hope to have it online under the c-sea.org domain by tomorrow, AND, have acquired the software needed to totally re-develop the whole thing with GREAT forums, searches, chat, user accounts, etc.. Whole new look will be coming within a couple weeks. You guys will like it!

Yes I am getting expired domain again as well

It looks like Domain Bank Inc. has a redirect on the c-sea.org name, so that anyone trying to go there sometimes gets bounced to the Domain Bank site. Maybe someone should tell them it's not theirs to redirect anymore. If you do get bounced, retry a few times and you should get past the redirect.

It works for me.
After a few seconds or when you click on a page, you may get redirected to Domain Bank Inc.

I'm waiting for passwords to the site, so I can upload the revised one..this 'second phase' is a lot better than the test one I've got up already. Look/Feel/Organization of it is better, brighter, etc.. Will get you all the link later. It still won't be under c-sea.org until I have the passwords as I said.

thx for everyone's patience..
