Any reason you shouldn't put this on a rock as opposed to sand? I put it on rock in an area with good light and moderate flow

No reason whatsoever The only thing I would say is though once it attaches itself it's extremely hard to get back off The rock.

I have three different one's and they are all on top or close to the top of my rocks, with good flow. easy coral to care for.

Pretty much.. Just get yourself a pair of sharp scissors and go to work.
