Calcium Dispenser

Hi Roger,

I have a couple of questions about the Tunze calcium dispenser. How much lime will the dispenser hold / how long should it be able to go between refills? I use about 2 gallons per day of top-off water and I really don't want to be messing with it more than once a week or so. Will the dispenser be dosing a lime-slurry or is the container designed to be large enbough to allow the water to mix and settle in between times that it is dispensed?

It holds 4 teaspoons, enough for a 7-8 gallon reservoir. In your case it would need to be refilled every few days. It has to be used with the Osmolator and it generally only dispenses a clear solution but if you just added kalk you may get a slurry if it doesn't have time to settle before it turns on.

so, just to clarify-I should be adding somewhere around 4 teaspoons every 7-8 gallons-at least as a starting point. I assume I cannot add twice that amount if my holding tank is 16 gallons?

You could but this is more likely to dose a slurry at first which could be dangerous if much was dosed, I might try 6 teaspoons and carefully watch and be sure the tank is topped up before fresh fill of powder is added.

I have it running with the osmolator.I use 5 gal of water every 3 days.I place about 3 tbls of kalk in it but my ph still vary's depending on how much kalk is inside.I find its a good product but its a bit of a pain if you are not around.It doesn't give you the same leeway as a kalk reactor where you can place a cup of kalk and run it for 1-2 weeks.I find my ph drops when its near the third day and then I have some kalk leftover but I always put more or else the ph doesn't raise that much.I am mostly using kalk to raise my ph.I have to high a demand system for kalk alone.

The left over powder is largely precipitated calcium carbonate, thats why it doesn't do much for the pH or calcium. It is best to clean out the reactor every 1-2 months.

yes Randy has mentioned that.The unit is pretty clean I try to rinse it out once a month.I am saying on the third day when I refill my bucket I have a bit of resedue left over its not much.But as you said if you leave it it accumulates.
