calcium drop

Been dosing kalkwasser from a 5 gallon jug on a drip system with about 5 gallons in three weeks. At a dose of two tsb per gallon. I added some new corals and the Ca has dropped to 290 (tested it three times) red sea test kit. Alk is stable at 9 and Mg 1200. My question is should I increase the strength of the kalk or use a calcium only supplement watching alk closely.

Added 4 montis and 4 acro's of fair size.

So if calcium is consumed the alk will drop also? I thought alk and Mg were buffers to calcium. In otherwords without out the proper levels of alk and mg there was not capacity in the water column to carry calcium.

Read corrections for zone 3. I would bump it up slowly to your target calcium level using the calcium part of a two part routine. Go slowly and keep an eye on your alk as you raise it.

Got some kent liquid calcium dosed 15ml at 7PM and will dose 15ml more at 10PM then run number again in the morning.

I would also get my magnesium back up to 1300ppm-1350ppm. I also drip 5 gallons of top off kalk at the rate of 1 gallon/day of 5 teaspoon/5gallon concentration. I have noticed a drop in my mag levels since dripping kalk.I also dose reef advantage calcium or Reef Builder and baked baking soda per Randy's 2 Part Recipe daily. My demand for 2 part is 35ml of each per day....and 35mls of mag every third day seems to keep my load of corals very happy.. Another thing that I have noticed is a drop in salinity since dosing kalk as top off. So I will mix a cup of salt with tank water until I get it back to 1.025sp-1.026sp.

Ka holding at 9.5 and Ca increased from 290 to 300. Will be dosing 30ml 3 times a day until I get to 400. Should take about 4 days. Then I'm thinking of going to calcion-P from brightwell for a maintenance dosing from now on..

Ka at 10 Ca at 340 after 120ml yesterday. I'm thnking a large waterchange may be the way to go at this point. Instead of the 15 gal do like 40 this weekend.
