Calcium levels what am i missing ?

500ppm caclium is not a problem. Is your alkalinity in an acceptable range 7 to 11 dkh. If so no worry on the calcium.

Well my calcium is now 440 ppm and i have my alkalinity at about 11.2Dkh and magnesium at 1365 using the sailfert test kits. The low Magnesium was the problem.

I have one question is it better to have a lower of higher alkalinity. I notice alot of people run Alkalinity at 8Dkh and was wondering if it better for me to lower it a little.

The standard recommended range is 7 to 11 dkh. Irun it at 12dkh. Some note higher alkalinity and the abundance of bicarbonate it brings make it easier for organisms to calcify. Others particularly those with ultra low nutrient systems such as zeo systems shoot for lower alkalinity(7 and8 range). The rationale for lower is better is not at all clear to me as long as there is not abiotic precipiotation as a result of higher levels.

I haven't read all the msgs [my bad], but JIC it hasn't been said.. a Calcium Reactor is really used to maintain the calcium levels, not to raise them.

If you want to raise them, go get some Kent Marine Turbo Calcium. This product IMO is made to raise the Calcium, and then use your reactor to maintain the levels.
