Calcium Precipitate Doesn't Make Sense

I don't dose calcium and I use Instant Ocean, not Reef Crystals, for salt as I have a softie tank. I do a 15% water change every week and the water parameters are in my signature. Since I don't dose Calcium I have never bought a Calcium test kit so I cannot provide the results.

My question is why do I have little white spots all over my glass and rock? The spots are not pods as they need to be scraped off the glass. Did I get a bad batch of salt? Any suggestions other than get a test kit which I will be getting this week? Also, if the spots are due to high calcium is there anyway to remove the naturally, perhaps by dropping the calcium level?

those little white spots are most likely spirorbid worms. a pic would help.

I will see what I can do about a picture but they do not seem to have a spherical shape to them nor do I see any extensions from them at night.

As for the Calcium / Magnesium test kits. they're on order and I'll start testing by next weekend.

Calcium precipitation would look more like a dusty white haze on the glass. It's not usually going to make spots.

do you have Nerite snails? They seem to spawn like crazy and leave little white discs everywhere.

Also any issues with calcium or alkalinity is usually a magnesium problem so make sure you have that measurment handy, i see you have it on order...good call.

Well, I stand corrected. I had my son, who has much better eyes than I have, take a very close look at the spots. He told me that he was able to see very small spiral shapes so it looks like they are in fact spirorbid worms.

Thanks again everyone for your help!
