calcium reactor output...

Hello to all, I have a calcium reactor in my medium stock 80 gallon reef and has an output of 25 to 26 dkh.
The reactor is working at 6.4 ph.
I have a second chamber with 12 lbs of coral crushed to raise the ph of the output that changes from 6.4 to 6.6.
My reef is now at 6 dkh and the reactor was put online two days ago.
My drip rate is 1 drop per second.
How long for my reactor to raise the alk? My calcium is at 380.
My reef is workin in 7.9 to 8.1 ph (night-day)
is that normal?
thanks for all..
diego

It sounds like your Ca reactor is working well because dKh of 25 or 26 is OK. (I've heard that you can get higher output, but I have not yet been able to get better than 25-26 myself)

If it were me, I would dose some Sodium bicarbonate to bring the alk up to around 8dKh. Then, you can adjust the Ca reator as necessary to try to keep it at 8.

You may find that the reactor does bring your alk up to 8. (Sorry, I don't know how long this will take). You have to watch out because if the reactor can move the tank from 6 to 8...it might just keep moving it beyond 8.

Ok. thanks.
I have rise my alk to 8 with bicarbonate sodium, I will wait now if I can maintain with the reactor this alk.
My reef is with a ph of 7.9 8.1, day night..
Is there a way to make it operate a little higher? Is better to be in the 8.2 8.4 range doesn't it?
thanks

Oh..I wouldn't say that 8.2-8.4 is necessarily "better". Best case scenario is that you get a pH that doesn't move around much. Ca Reactor based systems tend to run a bit lower pH.

You can try to drip Kalk at night (or even all the time) to try to get the pH to stabilize...possibly even at a higher number....but it didn't ever work for me.
