Calcium Reactor

Who's using a calcium reactor and what kind? I have a 425 gal and have just started looking into them. Ive also seen a electronic regulator which sounds like it makes setup simple, anyone have one ?

I am old school. Old Geo model of the CR818. Holds 1/2 box of Reborn media. Runs off my manifold. Fast drip. Solenoid always open. PH is adjusted with glass bubble counter mounted to the solenoid. Smith CO2 Regulator 30-150-320. Milwaukee Instruments MA957 minus the gauges. Milwaukee PH regulator in case PH gets too low it will shut the solenoid.

Old school here too. Customer GEO prototype with a cheap regulator (I know. It’s playing with fire) running off my manifold and controlled via my apex. Like lapin, fast drip here.

Calcium Reactor

Is the risk in the regulator or using the "fast drip off the manifold"? I was considering doing the same, as my return pump has way more output than I want/need returning back to the tank. So was going to T-off the return and use a precision needle valve to feed my old GEO818.

Seems like most people with big tank will use Calcium reactor and those with smaller tank will opted for the dosing pumps.

I think it is better to just buy it once and make sure that everything works perfectly. the reactor itself is less important than having a good regulator like the Carbon Doser and a peristaltic pump, to make sure that it won't clog your water entry. You can plug your pH probe on a system controller to shut down your regulator if the pH goes belong 6.5 in your reactor. That should be able to keep your Alk and Ca to the parameters you are looking for.

If you want ease of usage perhaps look at the Dastaco reactors. That’s what I wanted but we’re out of stock when I needed it. Bigger price tag than what is listed above but you didn’t mention a price range so...

I have the Dastaco -- And it's an awesome Reactor.

I also have a custom Bill Wann Aquarium Engineering Rx (Dastaco Replaced this).

It's boxed up and ready to ship. Asking 600 plus shipping.

Dave is it one of Bills new designs. The one to “compete” with The Dastaco? I believe he calls them the “Automated Calcium Reactor”

Ok. I’m curious on the automated one is all. I know everyone loves their Dastaco reactors but he says this is a better choice.

Thanks Dave
