Calcium Reactor...

I recently purchased a GEO reactor and I have not yet hooked it up. My question deals wth parameters. What is the general concensus on IDEAL settings. I was going to go with something like 4.0 meq/l alkalinity and 425 ppm calcium. Sound good?

I'd run the alk closer to 3.2 meq/l with a Ca level of 425

I second what tang said . that is close enough for me to not even think of putting a different # out there.
hey ramone what reactor media did you get? if none shuran media is hands down the best. also have you considered using magnesium granulates with it to keep your mag levels up with everything else? zeomag is an easy product to obtain and is used at 10% zeomag and 90% shuran media.
of course this is my opinion and others will have there own.

Thanks Rob, I appreciate the insight. I did plan on using Shuran, but I hadn't heard of using the mag media as well. Does it break up and slowly bleed into the tank like calcium?

well alot of places actually. fish and other ichthy stuff has it in stock or you can order it from aquaticeco.com or finsreef.com and anyone else having shuran reactors. zeomag can be purchased from finsreef.com and any other zeovit dealers.
ramone yes the mag breaks down alot like the coral pieces. I figure the coral pieces have no shells that may have whatever in them. just what your corals need to make skeletons with.

actually I have alot of the shuran media. I am a little bit forgetful. i ordered some then ordered some more. i will let it go for the regular price but won't charge the shipping. I thought I needed alot more than i ended up needing. I have 10-12 bags at a couple pounds a bag I think.

i was down the keys for a week and i could get use to that rather quickly.pa does not touch the ocean which i think is a requirement.and winter seems to last 9 months where i am at.1 good thing though,i can see big mountains from my deck.nice veiw.fins reef is out of shuran or not listing it.

vacation is head spinning here. I moved because of an ex and stayed because of the water. I have only made it to the beach once so far this year. I sat on a deck and ate then had to rush out of there to go to work. I have to work alot to have a little play money here.
