Calcium Reactor

I am buying a CR, I am sure I have everything I need, I want your thoughts on a used or new CRs. I am almost sold on a guys MRC6 dual chamber 1 year old.

I am also looking at a Korallin 1502, and many others.


here is my set up

125 with a 55 sump, 200lbs live rock, tons of corals and some fish, 3 250 double end lights, euro reef skimmer.

any help appreciated before i make the buy. So please post or PM your thoughts.

I bought one awhile back, guy shipped it with minimum packing padding, long story short, i have a Precision Marine 622 that has cracks and busted fittings, when i mean cracks, the actual housing and lid and fittings are cracked. I have been trying to repair it, but everything i do, just isnt good enough, and i am tired or trying, I had to buy a new 1250 eheim pump for it.

As with any equipment question opinions vary. However I have a friend that ran a MRC single chamber unit and had ok luck although he did need to "tweak" it often. Seemed the bubble counter acted up frequently. Perhaps they have improved things since then.

I personally have used a Korallin in the past and currently run a Geo. If I had to pick I would recommend the Geo. Much easier to dial in and less maintenance. Just my $.02.

I have a k2r or kr2 what ever its called I got it for 50 bucks had no problems with it. I set it up about 2 years ago and never had to dail it in just Had to speed up the drip and calibrate the probe.If I didnt get this one for so cheap I would have bought a GE0

I have been using a MRC dual chamber and have never been happy with it. It always needs tweeking and is not very well made. Now that I found out about MRC's owner I have ordered a Geo. Even if he sells al his stuff cheap do you really want something from a pedophile? I have heard good things about Geo so we will see. Good luck

The article I read said the business was sold. Are we to punish all the employee's for the owner's mistakes? Not to mention his wife & children.

I love my Korallin and Deltec. Other ones I would suggest looking at would be the H&S and GEO. Of all of them, I think that the Korallin is the best. Sure, the Deltec has a monsterous output, and its the true king of all reactors most likely, but do you need it? No... in fact most people run theirs only 1/2 or 1/3 of the day because of this. So is there really something that makes it worth costing about 2x as much? No, not really. FWIW, I get 70% the output with a Korallin, and the Korallin is 'self feeding'. I would suggest the aftermarket lid w/ built-in probe holder for easy pH control... but this reactor can actually be run w/o a probe very easily.

My biggest suggestion would be to get a good regulator though. This is often the biggest reason for having to constantly 'tweak' a reactor all the time, and at least for me, was the biggest cause of problems.

Its prolly the best out there. The ones from JBJ, Milwaukee, Gen-X, AquaMedic, etc are mostly crap. The ReefFanatic one might be alright, I dont know... but most of the rest in the industry arent so great. Mine is flawless.

Also, just buy a cylinder from around here, its alot cheaper than buying one online and having to pay for the shipping.
