calcium

I have a 90 with live rock and sand and want to introduce calcium for the coraline alage. Looking at different options. Does anyone know about how long a kilo block of Sea Lab calcium will last in the sump before needing replaced

I'd recommend that before you use anything like that, you read these:

http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-04/rhf/feature/index.php

so you understand that the balance between calcium and alkalinity is very essential. You can use this to arrive at the numbers you want:

But you have to understand that testing regularly for Calcium and for Alkalinity, among other things like nitrates, will help you succeed with your reef. So rather than use a calcium brick, learn the numbers you want and then to maintain them, get a good calcium additive and a good alkalinity maintenance additive and use this to apply them to keep the numbers right:

It's a bit more complicated that just adding a brick, but it's also mych more likely to lead to a healthy reef like you'd like and after a while, it'll be like second nature to you. Of course, we're here to help you as you get used to this.
