Calibrate ORP probe ?

I bought a used 50 mg red sea ozonizer and a brand new ORP probe, I just install the ORP probe into the reactor unit and my ORP reading is under 200 mv....

do I need to calibrate the ORP probe and how, there is no where to calibrate the probe on the ozonizer unit.

Thank you.

turned max 50 mg for approximately 300 gal of water set up, my ORP reading is 261 mv

is this good or bad ?

chaffey, i think you still need to calibrate it. Aqua Medic makes calibration fluid, but i have no idea how to do it on RedSea cuz i don't have an ORP probe or anything to work with.

Bebo77 - thanks it's at 315 right now, I set it at 350.

For the recalibration - even if I buy the solution, there is nothing to work with, there is no dial or switch to turn or play with.

oh I even noticed the water is much clearer when it hit 300 mv. I don't see any of the flowing particles like I used to see.

wow, just fed my tank with 6 cubes and add some kent Phytoplex Phytoplankton...ORP reading is 280 mv

I don't have the same brand but I have to open up the unit to calibrate mine.

Feeding will lower orp as you found out. Water changes will do the same.

Congrats Tom on your new toy. I just hook up the Ozotech Poseidon 200Mg/H. I set the Generator at 175 and ORP controller at 320Mv my ORP without ozone is 310Mv. I prefer to take it slow. I don't want to kill any of my fish. From 200-315Mv is a big jump. Be careful, you may cook your fish.

Which Ozone reactor did you use Tom? Do you have the carbon reactor to feed your effluent into? I received my Ozone generator and the electronic air dryer yesterday but i can't use the IQ20 Electronic air dryer cuz it required to run off the protein skimmer. the IQ20 required something to suck the air through (like venturi skimmer etc...)

I got the red sea plus model 50mg with the ORP controller.

I don't have the air dryer yet, I am using a cheap small air pump to pump it into my skimmer.

The Red Sea Ozoniser ORP probe can not be calibrated (And for standard probes it does not need to be). If you want to insure it is reading properly you can buy a reference solution (450 mv) and test with it. If the reading is within the range of 425 to 475mv the probe is reading OK.

Also note that some probes require up to four days to properly read and usually takes a slow uprise reading during this period, it will be the same every time you clean it.

jdieck - thank you

reading is at 315mv right now. I noticed that it's going up slowly.
Yes I would be careful the first week as it may be reading lower than it should. If you are injecting it trough the skimmer do not forget a good amount of activated carbon at the skimmer output to get rid of unreacted Ozone.

I turned up my 50mg ozonizer to max and set ORP at 400 mv, my reading is at 380mv...

should I go higher than 400mv for 200gal display plus about another 150gal sump/fuge/frag tank ?
