Called Glass Cages today and got a bad first impression

I called Glass Cages today to get info on having a custom tank built (for a sump) and the lady was really rude. She was snippy when I ask some basic questions and made me feel like I was inconveniencing her for even calling. What a turn off. Anybody ever had any experience with these guys?

I am needing a bigger sump than the 15 gal I have under the 46. Mainly because I want to go to a bigger skimmer and also have more water holding capability. The biggest size I can fit in there would be something like a 28x14x18 which would be around a 30 gal tank. Anybody know a place around here that makes custom tanks? Glass or acrylic is fine, just as long as its not too expensive. Glass Cages price for that size was $90 in glass and $95 in acrylic and I would have to go pick it up in Nashville, TN.

Yeah, I hear they are not the greatest at customer service but do an ok job on their tanks. You can also get with someone who sells the tanks from do on the gulf coast to do you a custom one. The guys over at Aquarium Imports in Hoover is a reseller for them. They say there tanks are well built.

We ordered from them. Gary's tank turned out incredible. My acrylic was ok but not exactly what I ordered.

The customer service we had was very good.

Maybe you just caught her in a bad mood. Shouldn't happen though.

Big Goose - Yeah, when I say sump thats really what I mean. Right now I have a 15 gal fuge. with an external skimmer. I want to go to a bigger internal skimmer (ASM G1X) but I would loose most of my fuge space in the 15. Hence I want a bigger sump to house the new skimmer and also the sized fuge that I want.

I purchased my 180g from them about a year and a half ago. Not custom work, but had a very pleasant experience. I read many threads before buying from them, and almost all the complaints I found were focused on the attitude of people at Glass Cages or sloppy silicone work.

My tank is better built than the AG 125 I replaced, and silicone is no different. Picked up tank at their location, was given the tour of the shop and was treated very well.

If you are looking for "red carpet" service, look elsewhere. If you want a lot of tank for the money, this is the place! (IMHO)

I called Glass Cages to place an order and the guy was so incredible rude to me that I changed my mind, hung-up, and went with a custom tank from Aquarium Imports.

If you need a custom tank call Aquarium Imports and he'll work you out a good price.

I don't care how good Glass Cage's work is, I would not spend any money at a place where the owner talks to people like that. I don't care if the tank cost a penny! lol . . .

Thats a shame.

After some thought, I've half decided to try and make my own. My boss has made a bunch in the past and with his help I'm going to give it a go. Its a small tank and doesn't need to be pretty, just hold water. It will be a good winter project. Wish me luck!

I bought my 180 from them a cou[le months back & i must say they are lacking in phone skills. That being said My tank looks fantastic. I went with the low iron glass & they did a perfect job on my silicone. They actually did a better job on it than oceanic did on my 75. They are super busy & according to them they are the no1 builder of aquariums in the us as far as volume goes. Anyway I hope this helps.
