Calling all Euro Reef owners...NEED HELP!!!

I have this Euro-reef skimmer. I believe it is a CS-6. Anyway, no matter how high I put the tube, and even put the little foam thingy high up, I am not getting any skimmate anymore. Everything was working great untill the last time I cleaned it. I have since taken it out of the sump, pulled it apart and cleaned the whole thing. There is a ton of bubbles in the chamber and the neck is totally black by the end of the day, but nothing in the collection cup. So, any ideas how to get it back. It was pulling a cup full a day up until last week. THANKS A LOT! THEPHISHGUY

Sometimes the o-ring wears out and the weight of the wet foam pushes the riser tube down. Adding a gate valve will eliminate this, but the tube doesn't sound like the problem if you raised it all the way to the top and it does nothing. Take the air line off of the venturi and see if the port is clogged with salt creep.

I thought of something else.
Take the cover off of the pump to check if the needle wheel impeller is rubbing against it. The Sedra's have a bushing that is prone to wear out causing the impeller to rub the housing and slow the impeller down.

I have had the same problem and the air tube was clogged. After clearing the tube, the problem was solved.

yea, make sure the air tubing hole is not cloged with salt. Run a gallon of fresh warm water though it, making it suck it all up. See if that works any better.

On a side note my CS6-1 does not get wet enough skimate for my taste (lots of dry skimate) so I added a limewood airstone and now I am getting a TON of semi-wet skimate. Been very happy with the change.

Can u explain how you do that jent46bow? Also, could it be from any of the additives I have put in? Possibley the phosgaurd or the nitrate media which was removed after only a day or two?

I used hot (not boiling) water which I sucked through the air line, just a cup cleaned it out, takes quite a bit more with cooler water...

it is possible anything your adding to the tank could effect your skimmer. I don't use ether product so I can't comment for sure.

As for the mod it is a limewood airstone that is zip died inside the skimmer to the output tube. That goes to an airline that goes up the unit and through the cup. And then the lid holes are too small for airline to fit though. But I connect it to a small peice of rigid air tubing just to pass through that hole. The other end of the rigid tubing is connectd to a normal air pump. I hope all this makes sence.

When you clean out the unit you need to unfeed the tubing from the cup and disconect it from the rigid tubing at one point. And after cleaning you need to feed it back through the cup hole before you screw it back on and then reconnect to the rigid tubing. Then just put the lid back on. So far has worked very very well.

Hope this all makes sence. I was going to post detailed instructions with photos on the euro reef forum. But then they took it down. :-(

How can I tell if it is rubbing?

You'll see a groove worn in the cover. As for clearing the air hole to the venturi, I always used a tiny screw driver to clear it out.

sounds to me like your additives toned down the surface tension and the bubbles are popping before reaching the cup. I'd give it a day or two to clear up before you start modifying your euro. try to keep the throat clean as the accumulated gunk will also break most of the bubbles before reaching the cup.

when I first set mine up, I did not have enough water in my sump and the bubbles were not getting high enough

Also whenever I add anything like purple up to the water I have a similiar problem for a few hours.

the higher the water level in the sump, the less back pressure on the pump. I get less/darker skimmate from my euro if I allow my sump to get to low.
