Calling all reefers... Aiptasia problem

Hi,

So here I am... I got an order of 150 kg of live rock... And it is ocvered in Aiptasia... And being In India, I can't really just send it back to the shop... So If you guys could tell me all the possible solutions to dealing with a major Aiptasia problem... I have tried Kallwasser injections and that does not seem to have any effect... I am wondering whether it is actually worth buying a commerical aiptasia control solution, seeing that I would have to Special order it all the way over in India...

So i found this on a website, which i have acually heard about from alot of people.

if you click on aquarium pest at the bottom and then click on conrtolling apitasia, it give two methods.


1) Prepare stock solution

1. 1 tsp. pickling lime - food grade calcium hydroxide
2. 2 tbls. tap water.

boil water and lime in microwave for 40 sec.
keep closed plastic container in cool place.
You will need a vet syringe from a pet store that sells vaccinations

This mixture comes out of the needle very thick. You do not need to inject the Aiptasia.
Just release a small amount on to the aiptasia and it will take it in. This mixture seems to stick to the
anemone, but it does not stick to the other inverts. We also use this mixture on problem hair algae.

We have killed 20 or 30 at a time in 55 gallon reefs and it did not hurt anything

2) Simply place a copperband butterfly fish in the tank

I have placed several Copperband Butterfly fish in my sps coral brood stock reefs during the past 3 months. The Copperband Butterfly fish will search every part of reef for Aiptasia. I have watched these fish for hours and I have not seen them do any damage to my corals.

One month ago I put one Copperband Butterfly fish in a 70 gallon propagation tank that I have been testing a shipment of Florida aquaculture rock. This tank has one 175 watt halide and several power heads. I am certain that there were over 3000 Aiptasia in this reef 5 weeks ago. Today I counted 9 that were behind a piece of plastic that holds up the plugs.

you might look into one of these two options.

take the rock out and burn the lil turds with a lighter. cheap, mess free, and works like a charm.

You have many possibilities.

1. You could put a copperband butterflyfish in the tank. It it devour the anemonies.

2. You could purchase peppermint shrimp, they also eat aiptasia.

3. Use a chemical know as Joe's Juice to kill the aiptasia. (Unless if you literally have hundreds of them)

4. Fill a syringe with fresh water and inject the freshwater into the aiptasia. (If aiptasia is big enough and if the aiptasia is not in the hundreds)

5. Take the liverock out and burn the aiptasia anemonies with a hot surface.

There are many different method to rid yourself of pest anemones like Aiptasia. All the methods have teir own pluses and minuses. Here is a review of the various methods I have used.

A friend of mine mentioned making hypersaturated solution of Kalk and putting the rocks into the buckets.. Has anyone tried that... And what would the effects be too the live rock in the long run...
