If you mean an electronic colorimeter Box they won't work. They can only measure small amounts of Ca++ and then there is the Mg++ interference.

The only one that is not an arm and leg is the PinPoint, which is not the best thing as you have read. A good one would be a pricey pH meter and a good ISE probe for Ca++, very pricey, as in $250 - $700 And that is just for the probe. Meter, another $400.
